Emma LaVecchia, being the second oldest of seven siblings, always knew children and education would be at the center of her life.
Emma’s parents live happily in the Vermont town where she spent much of her time growing up. Her siblings, all of whom remain very close, reside in the Northeast with the exception of one brother who lives and works with his family in Portland Or. Emma is the proud mother of three amazing young men who help her to remember that each day is precious, and every moment impacts our journey in life.
Emma came to Lesley College (now University) in 1983 to earn her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Needs in 1987. She began her career in early childhood working in a program for children with moderate to severe emotional and cognitive challenges on the North Shore of Mass. From there she spent three years at Bay Cove Elementary School in Allston Mass, joyfully teaching in a 5th grade classroom.
In 1992 Emma had the first of her three sons and began caring for children in her home as a family child care provider in Brighton. She spent the next seven years working in the field and supporting family child care providers in Boston, through neighborhood networks, city collaborations and educational opportunities. She and Brid Martin worked very closely over these years and quickly realized the potential they shared as a duo. And thus Pine Village was birthed.
Emma considers each joyful day she gets to come to work a privilege, and she sees this opportunity to touch lives as a gift. Looking back at the evolution of Pine Village she is astounded and often describes it as an incredible journey. “Never did we imagine…” is always the starting place of the Pine Village story. At this point in the journey she feels a tremendous obligation to everyone that makes Pine Village a part of their day: For employees, to provide stability and professional growth as well as a loving and supportive work environment. For the parents who trust us with their babies to nurture, protect and inspire. And for the kids who rush in every morning eager to experience new adventures to feel safe and loved.
